"Upgradation in MAC Operating System is a Regular Task"
The Macintosh OS family was developed by Apple includes the GUI (graphical user interface)-based operating systems. It has designed for use with its Macintosh series for personal computers since 1984, as well as the related system software with it once developed for compatible third-party systems.
1) Mac OS X 10.0 – Code named "Cheetah", which was released in 2001. It is the first major operating system which was released of Apple Inc. for desktop and server. It was released on March 24,2001 for a price of US $129. It was the successor of the Mac OS x BETA.
2) Mac OS X 10.1 – Code named "Puma",was released in 2001. It superseded Mac OS 10.0 and preceded Mac OS 10.2. It was released on September 25,2001 as a free update of OS 10.0 users. It has a hybrid kernel. It was distributed to the mac users on 25th Oct 2001.
3) Mac OS X 10.2 – Also marketed as "Jaguar",was released in 2002. It was the third major release of MAC OS X series. It was released with two versions either for single-computer installations or ‘family pack’. The OS got good response from it’s users and take a huge step forward in the areas of stability and general speed enhancements. It was preceded by OS X Panther.
4) Mac OS X Panther – Version 10.3,was released in 2003. It is the fourth major release of MAC. Here the internet explorer is replaced by Safari. Panther still supported the classic environment fully for running Mac OS 9 applications.
5) Mac OS X Tiger – Version 10.4,was released in 2005. It is the fifth major release. It costs approx. US $129.95. Some of new features is included here like a fast searching system called Spotlight, a new version of Safari web browser.
6) Mac OS X Leopard – Version 10.5,was released in 2007. It is the sixth major release of mac family. It retailed $129 for personal and $499 for server version. It was superseded by Snow Leopard. This is the last MAC OS version to support POWER PC architecture.
7) Mac OS X Snow Leopard – Version 10.6,was released in 2009. This is the seventh major release of Mac. It was released worldwide on 28th August,2009. It costs $29 and available on the apple stores. The goals of it were improved performance, greater efficiency etc. It is the first intel based product of MAC family. It was succeeded by OS X LION.
8) Mac OS X Lion – Version 10.7,was released in 2011. This is the eighth major release of MAC OS X. The preview of this version is public on Oct 20,2010. It brought many developments made in apple iOS, such as an easily navigable display. It includes support for the MAC app store. Apple released this version publicly on July 1, 2011. Apple claimed of sailing one million Lion on the first day.
9) OS X Mountain Lion - Version 10.8,was released in 2012. This is the ninth major release of MAC. It was released on July 25 for purchase and download via online. It is the final version of MAC OS X developed under Scott Forstall.
10) OS X Mavericks – Version 10.9,was released in 2013. OS X Mavericks is the tenth major release It was publicly released on 22nd Oct as a free upgrade through Mac App Store. The update emphasized battery life, Finder improvements, other improvements for power users.
The user’s have some positive feelings towards MAC OS. Though it needs money, it needs apple hardware. As the various BSD’s are well match for the servers and embedded applications.
